Dinner and movie at Autocines Málaga Metrovacesa

When you want to go to the Diner to eat your hamburger and hope that they stop taking pictures of you….

It’s been five years since we became parents and that’s how long it’s been since we’ve set foot at a cinema, but we’ve found a way of watching a film as a family without feeling overwhelmed, or getting into a room with a lot of screaming children, and with almost all the comforts you have at home: we have discovered the Autocine Metrovacesa (drive-in cinema).

What are Autocines like:

It is a leisure space of more than 12,000 square metres where you can watch a movie in the purest American style after eating at its Diner.  You could also enjoy a Rita’s Brunch on a Sunday at noon, go to a music concert, go out partying at night or reserve the space for a private event.

In Malaga they are in the Polígono del Guadalhorce, very close to the city centre and all the surrounding towns (Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Alhaurín etc) and in Madrid in Fuencarral el Pardo.

Our visit to Autocines Málaga Metrovacesa:

We wanted to visit one so much that we ended up watching a movie at the Malaga drive-in one rainy day because we didn’t want to put it off any longer, well, and because that day they were showing Kill Bill, my favourite movie, one I must have seen more than ten times. On the one hand, we were surprised by the good atmosphere on a weekday as quite a few cars arrived to see the film, and on the other hand, that despite it having rained a little during the film, we were able to see it wonderfully well. So, we thought it was a great idea both for a summer night and for a typical day at the movies, blanket and sofa in winter but in this case on the seats of your car.

We arrived before the movie to have dinner at the Diner, totally recommendable, it’s American style and we loved it because it transported us to our motorhome trip through the towns of Route 66 and the West Coast of the United States. The Diner is very cool and it has a terrace outside with food trucks, a Beer Factory stand and a children’s playground. You can go just to see a movie but the combination of dinner + movie makes the experience complete.

On the menu they have, of course, hamburgers but also hot dogs, pizzas, sandwiches, salads, starters, sweets and a children’s menu, ah! and popcorn. You can get combined movie tickets plus menu and it’s cheaper. And I advise you 100×100 that you dine at the Diner or on the terrace, but if you don’t feel like leaving the car that day, they bring your orders to the car for only €1 more.

Top Tips:

Don’t forget to take…
Mike had the brilliant idea of taking a couple of cushions and it was a success, if you go in winter don’t forget a blanket either.
On the other hand, if you go in summer, don’t forget a mosquito repellent because you will have to open the windows.
It seems silly but check if you can open and close the windows without turning on the lights because otherwise the car in front won’t be very happy. If you don’t know how to do it or it can’t be done, ask them to cover your lights with special plastic covers they have (they are super prepared) and that way you will be more relaxed (in some cars the radio turns off shortly after removing the keys so you will also need to turn the ignition on).

Tickets: If you go to dinner there, buy the combined movie and menu ticket and it will be cheaper. If you go in high season arrive early because they assign places in order of arrival so you ensure that you will have good visibility (although it seems that you can see the movie well from all sides) and you will be able to see and enjoy the Diner and the terrace before the projection starts.

Opening hours: It depends on the time of year since the film is shown at dusk but usually the film starts between eight and ten at night and they open a couple of hours before so you have time to have dinner or a drink beforehand.

Prices: You have many tickets and food options: for couples a «Movie Night» with 2 tickets + popcorn and soft drinks for €21 or «Movie Dinners» with 2 tickets + dinner (1 starter, 2 mains and 2 drinks) for €39, or for families, for example “Family Cinema” includes 2 adult tickets + 2 child tickets + 2 popcorn combos (each combo is popcorn and 2 soft drinks) for €35, to see all the combinations click here. You also have the option of buying gift tickets.
Food prices range from hamburgers from €11.60, sandwiches from €11.25, salads from €10.15 and children’s menu from €8.50.

I also leave you a direct link to the Malaga Madrid Drive-In Billboard and all the events they organize in Málaga and Madrid

Summer nights are here and the movies at home with a blanket and sofa are coming to an end, enjoy a summer night at the drive-in theatres and live a unique experience.

We have yet to get to know Rita’s Brunch as a family, so as soon as we do, I’ll tell you everything on the blog. Meanwhile, in order not to miss anything, you can subscribe and find out about all the plans, activities and getaways that we propose to do as a family.

Many thanks to Autocines Málaga Metrovacesa for this original experience, without a doubt, we will return soon.
